Welcome
This page is the official starting point for new Trezor users. It bundles the essential steps into a concise, security-first walkthrough so you can safely set up your device and access your crypto. Follow each step carefully and use the links provided to reach the official documentation and downloads.
1. Download Trezor Suite from the official Start page
Begin at trezor.io/start. Download the Trezor Suite desktop installer for Windows, macOS, or Linux, or choose the web app if you prefer not to install software. Always verify the URL and never install Suite from third-party or unofficial mirrors.

2. Unbox and inspect your device
Before powering up, inspect your package and device for tampering. Trezor devices ship with tamper-evident packaging; if seals are broken or anything looks altered, contact support and do not use the device. Keep the original box and documentation for future reference.
3. Install & launch Trezor Suite
Run the installer for your OS and launch Trezor Suite. If using the web app, open the official web link. On first launch, Suite will guide you through connecting your device and will detect whether firmware needs installing. Follow the on-screen instructions and verify every prompt shown on the physical device display.
4. Create a new wallet or restore
Choose to create a new wallet or restore from an existing recovery seed. When creating a new wallet, Trezor will generate a recovery seed (12/18/24 words depending on model and options). Write the seed down accurately in order, store it offline, and confirm the seed in the Suite process.
Never take a photo of your recovery seed or store it on cloud services. Consider a metal backup for long-term protection. See backup guidance here: Backups & recovery.
5. Set a PIN and optional passphrase
Set a device PIN to protect physical access. Optionally enable a passphrase — an additional secret that creates hidden wallets. If you use a passphrase, record it securely: losing the passphrase means losing access to that hidden wallet.
6. Firmware updates
Trezor devices ship without firmware or might require updates. Trezor Suite will perform firmware installation or updates for you; follow the official prompts. Always ensure you have a valid recovery backup before performing firmware updates and only install firmware via Trezor Suite.
7. Sending and receiving
Generate receive addresses in Trezor Suite and verify each address on your device. When sending, confirm the transaction details on the Trezor screen before approving — this prevents malware on your computer from manipulating addresses or amounts.
8. Security best practices
- Always download Suite from trezor.io/start.
- Never share your recovery seed, PIN, or passphrase.
- Use a metal backup for high-value holdings and consider geographically distributed backups.
- Verify addresses on the device display, not just on-screen.
- Keep your OS, browser and Trezor Suite up to date.
9. Restoring a wallet
To restore, choose the restore option in Suite and input your recovery seed on the device. Take your time with word order and spelling; mistakes can make funds inaccessible. If you used a passphrase previously, use the exact passphrase to access the same hidden wallet.
10. Help & resources
If you need help, Trezor's Learn center and support hub provide step-by-step guides, FAQs, and troubleshooting tips. Provide your device model, firmware version, operating system, and exact error messages when contacting support to speed up assistance.
